Outstanding Image Quality for Quantification

Better Resolution and Flatness

  • Uses X Line high-performance objectives to deliver images with no stitching artifacts or patchwork effect.
  • An optimized optical beam path provides more homogenous illumination.
  • High-power True Color LED matches the spectral performance of reference halogen light sources, so brightfield stains like purple, cyan, and pink are correctly represented, imaged, and rendered.
  • Fluorescence illuminator with a fly-eye lens uniformly distributes light for bright, even images.
  • Optional optical sectioning device produces high-contrast images, especially for thick samples.

Flexible for Many Applications

Supports Multiple Hardware Options

The VS200 slide scanner is a highly flexible system that supports various slide sizes, different objectives, the SILA optical sectioning device, oil dispenser, cameras, loaders, and LED/laser light sources with multiple filter sets.

Supports Multiple Observation Methods

The VS200 supports brightfield, darkfield, polarization, phase contrast, and fluorescence, with the possibility to scan a sample using multiple techniques at the same time.

Flexible Software Solutions

The VS200 software supports offline analysis, deep learning, 3D deconvolution, and batch conversion to standard file formats. It also supports the NIS-SQL database for data management and the DICOM format for easy integration into a lab information management system (LIMS).

Testimonials

Michel Meijer
Technician, Digital and Computational Pathology Unit
University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG)

“Within the slide scanning facility of the pathology department there was a high demand for a whole slide scanning microscope with multiple methods of illumination (brightfield, polarization, and fluorescence) and a diverse range of objectives (air and oil). The SLIDEVIEW VS200 scanner fits our needs as a day-to-day whole slide scanning system for research purposes without compromising on image quality.”

Accurate Focus at All Magnifications

  • Z-focus is 4X more precise than our previous slide scanner and offers higher readjustment accuracy with linear encoders
  • Automatic sample detection helps determine the scan area for faster imaging while the autofocus improves the automated stitching function
  • Design minimizes vibrations for better imaging stability
  • Manually edit the sample mask and modify the automatically detected sample mask

Bright LED with Accurate Color Reproduction

The system’s true color LED for transmitted illumination has the same spectral characteristics and power as a halogen lamp, so purple, cyan, and pink stains are correctly represented, imaged, and rendered.

Uniform Fluorescence Illumination

The fluorescence illuminator with its fly-eye lens uniformly distributes light across the entire field of view for bright, evenly illuminated images.

High-Contrast Images without Blur

The SILA optical sectioning device quickly delivers blur-free scans of thick samples, so you can achieve widefield and section imaging with a single system.

Based on Hi-Lo microscopy, the SILA (speckle illumination acquisition) optical sectioning device produces high-contrast images free from out of focus blur. Adding the SILA hardware to a VS200 makes it especially well suited for imaging thicker samples that either normal or TruSight imaging cannot resolve effectively. The SILA device delivers real-time, blur-free scans of thick samples, so you can achieve widefield and section imaging with a single system.

Online Fluorescence Deblurring

TruSight Live deblurring reduces diffused light from above and below the focal plane of a thick sample. The image data is then recalculated using a special 2D deconvolution algorithm, making the images sharper and clearer.

Multiplex Scan Mode

When tissue samples are limited, it’s important to get the most possible data from each tissue section. Multiplexing mode aligns multiple fluorescence channels with a reference image, enabling greater understanding of co-expression and spatial composition of multiple targets within a sample.

The Power of TruAI Deep-Learning Technology

  • Deep learning enables faint samples or morphological features on a sample to be accurately identified and scanned, saving time and effort
  • Target regions, such as pancreas islets, can be accurately segmented and differentiated from erythrocytes

Left: Cy3 fluorescence marked pancreatic islets. Pancreatic islets are stained (red) while erythrocytes are autofluorescencing.
Right: Probability map detection based on TruAI technology. Only pancreatic islets are accurately detected (green).

Advanced Automation for More Efficient Image Acquisition

Optimized Slide Scanning Workflow

  • More efficient and flexible: the software is easy to set up and operate. You can upload your trained neural network and open it with the click of a button.
  • Reduce the volume of acquired data: TruAI technology and selective scanning prevents the system from acquiring large amounts of data from areas you don’t care about. This helps optimize data management, including storage, uploading, and image sharing.
  • Set it and forget it: TruAI technology is accurate, reducing the need for you to supervise the scanning. This enables you to use your time for other tasks or do scanning runs overnight or over the weekend.

Higher Productivity

Multibatch Processing

  • Identical Settings mode automatically assigns scan settings to all the slides
  • Individual Settings mode enables you to change specific settings for each slide or all the slides in a single tray
  • Flexible Batch Scan mode enables you to designates different observation method such as FL, BF, POL, DF, and PH for each slide contained in the batch
  • Priority Scan function enables you to interrupt a continuous operation to scan a slide and then resume what you were scanning

Hot-Swap

Hot-swap functionality enables you to exchange an already scanned slide tray with a new tray during batch processing so that you can add new slides before the system has finished scanning. This function minimizes the amount of time the system is idle.

Supports Glass Slides and Plates

  • Simple-to-use slide tray enables you to mix 26 × 76 mm (1 × 3 in.), 52 × 76 mm (2 × 3 in.), 76 × 102 mm (3 × 4 in.), and 102 × 127 mm (4 × 5 in.) slides on the same batch scan
  • A RFID system enables the unit to automatically detect trays, the number of slides, and the size of the slides

Data Management

Comprehensive Image and Data Management

  • Conveniently manage your images with the optional Net Image Server (NIS) SQL database.
  • Store and send images using the web to share your virtual slides with a broad audience.
  • Control access to your data with individual access rights.
  • Scan images directly to .vsi, OME-TIFF, and DICOM formats or export batches of already acquired images to many different file formats.
  • Scan your images with the ability to query the LIS (laboratory information system) for additional metadata and save them in the DICOM format. You can then upload them to an IMS.
  • Automatic upload to the optional Net Image Server (NIS) SQL database.
Learn more about the Net Image Server (NIS)

The VSI file format supported by VS200 systems was developed by EVIDENT to meet the specialized requirements of advanced microscopy imaging. A number of projects and companies are already supporting the VSI format in their applications, and more are on the way.
